This wonderful engraving shows the ruined temple of Thebes in Egypt. Four great statues of the Pharaoh stand guardian to the ruins of the temple. Alas. the guardians themselves are in a sorry state with some lacking heads or other features on their body. Around the pillars of the temple. carved to look like papyrus trees are carvings of the Faro and the Egyptian Gods. Other parts of the temple lay ruined on the floor. People are walking around the temple admiring the ruins. The engraving is surrounded by a border colored gold and drawn in the middle-eastern style. This engraving is 12 1/2" x 10" with the picture being 5 1/2" x 4".

This engraving shows the ruins of Jericho. A tower can be seen to the left of the engraving while to the right of the engraving is a collection of tents and other temporary buildings. Within this shantytown are several Bedouin`s tribesman. In the background of the engraving is another town on the slopes of the hill. According to the Bible Jericho was one of the first towns captured by the Israelites after entering the Promised Land. They circled the town once a day for six days and on the seventh day for seven times. They the priests blew trumpets. the army shouted and the walls of the city collapsed. This enabled the Israelites to storm the city and burn it to the ground. The engraving is surrounded by a border colored in gold and drawn in the middle-eastern style. This engraving is 12 1/2" x 10" with the picture being 5 1/2" x 4".
