Wonderful print of a painting by Memling titled. "The mystic marriage of St. Catherine" in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York. 1930.

Mystical marriage is a Catholic belief in which a woman. typically a saint. is symbolically married to Christ. This marriage takes place in a symbolic way in which Christ gives the woman a ring which only she can see. In return for the marriage the woman devotes her soul and life to God. She endures raptures and a deeper sense of spirituality. Often she bears the stigmata. the personification of the bodily wounds of the crucified Christ. This print shows St. Catherine receiving the mystical marriage to Christ. The infant Jesus sits on the knees of the Virgin Mary. In his hand he is giving a ring to St. Catherine who kneels to the left of the print. Around them stand a group of angels. typical of such mystical marriages. Next to St. Catherine is a sword. symbol of justice. The background is a typical Italian renaissance scene with open fields and some houses. The print is 8" x 10".
