Camillo Benso, conte di Cavour. Leader in Italian unification. Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. During the Second Italian War of Independence Count Cavour helped Garibaldi's campaigns to unite Italy. Cavour died only three months after the declaration of a united Kingdom of Italy.
Cavour created several economic reforms in the province of Piedmont in his earlier years. He founded the political newspaper Il Risorgimento. He was elected into the Chamber of Deputies and quickly rose through the ranks in the Piedmontese government. After a large rail system expansion program, Cavour became prime minister in 1852. Cavour successfully negotiated Piedmont through the Crimean War, Second Italian War of Independence, and Garibaldi's expeditions.
