The battle of Antietam was the first major battle in the American Civil War to take place on Northern soil. It is also know to have produced the largest amount of casualties in a single day. The battle of Ball's Bluff was also known as the Battle of Harrison’s Island or the Battle of Leesburg. Baker is the only United States senator ever to be killed actually in battle and his death did cause some concern in Washington.
