Interesting fine quality print from the London Illustrated News titled. "methods of conveying cotton in India to the ports of shipment". April 20th 1861.

This wonderful print shows three different scenes showing methods of moving cotton around India. The main. central picture. shows the large cotton bales being loaded on the ships ready for transport abroad. Other boats can be seen in the background. To the left of this picture are two large oxen. On the backs of these animals are the cotton bales being transported down to the docks. The far right print shows the cotton bales being loaded onto the back of the oxen at the place where the cotton was grown. The oxen also help to pull a cart loaded with the cotton. The print is 16" x 11".

Very Good condition with very slight foxing / browning. There is text on the back of the print.

St. Antonio Breech

Wonderful. fine quality print titled. "The breach in the Bastion of St.Antonio. Gaeta. caused by the explosion of a powder magazine on the 8th February last". March 16th 1861.

This print shows several clear up teams clearing up the remains of the explosion of the powder magazone of the bastion of the fort of Gaeta. The magazine itself is completely destroyed while the outer wall has a large breach within it. Thus allowing it to be captured by the National Italian forces led by General Garibaldi. A cannon lays broken to the right of the print while elsewhere there are several bodies laying around. Several soldiers stand on guard duty. waiting for the coming assault. The scene is one of the devastation caused by such an incident. The print is 16" x 11".

Very Good condition. There is some foxing/brown edging. There is also text on the back of the print.
