Interesting fine quality print from the London Illustrated News titled. "The volunteer sham fight at Wimbledon on Easter Monday: The troops formed into squares to resist a charge of cavalry". April 13th 1861.

This wonderful print shows a display by a regiment of the British army. The soldiers can be seen in the background of the picture formed up in a "Square" formation used to defend against cavalry. There are several puffs of gunpowder from the squares showing that they are firing blanks. A large crowd can be seen either side of the soldiers. The crowd are dressed in a mix of fashions from the mid 19th century. Many of the crowd are carrying umbrellas against the diagonal rain. The print is 16" x 11".

Very Good condition with very slight foxing / browning. There is text on the back of this print.
