Interesting. fine quality print from the London Illustrated News titled. "General Cialdini and his staff at Gaeta.- from a photograph by Grillet of Naples". April 13th 1861. This print shows the Italian General Cialdini and his staff at Gaeta besieged by General Garibaldi. All are dressed in military uniform of the Italian army. The General sits at a table covered with maps and notes while his staff are lined up behind him. a small camp stool sits besides one of the officers. The majority of the figures are armed with swords. The background of the print shows the fortress of Gaeta. The print is 16" x 11".

Very Good condition with very slight foxing/browning. There is also text on the back of the print.

Wonderful fine quality print titled. "The Opening of The New Italian Parliament by Victor Emmanuel". March 9th. 1861. This delightful print shows the interior of the New Italian Parliament building. Inside are a large collection of chairs holding the Politicians of Italy. The interior as one would expect is impressive. Sitting high on a raised platform is Victor Emmanuel. in a gilded chair reading the proclamation that opens parliament. The print is 16" x 11".

Very Good condition. There is some foxing / brown edging. There is also text on the back of the print.

Wonderful. fine quality print titled. "The Investiture Of His Majesty King William Of Prussia With The Insignia And Habit Of The Most Noble Order Of The Gartar". March 23rd. 1861. This wonderful engraving shows King William being invested with the Order of the Gartar in very sumptuous surroundings. The room is lavishly decorated in 19th style Germannic style and includes fine paintings. statues with impressive windows. A large crowd can be seen ranging from ladies of the court to well dressed gentleman in the foreground. Many others crowd a balcony towards the rear. Soldiers and their officers can be seen to the edges of the room in typical Prussian uniform of the period. The print is 16" x 11".

Very Good condition. There is some foxing/brown edging. There is also text on the back of the print.

Paris: The Good and the Bad

Two scenes. the top titled. "The New Facade of the School of Fine Arts. Paris" and the second titled. "The Mazas Prison. Paris". March 16th 1861. The School of Fine Art in Paris - as one might expect of such a building is decorated in the most fashionable architecture and designs of the time. It appears to be a jewel between its neighbors. Rich carvings decorate its roof line complete with figurines and delightful window enclosures. The second print shows the darker side of Paris. This prison has nothing fashionable about it. it is merely functional. Tall. thick walls imprison the occupants and the place has an austere. doom-laden feeling to it. The print is 11" x 16".

The French Senate

Interesting. fine quality print from the London Illustrated News titled. "A recent sitting of the French Senate". April 27th 1861. This print shows a sitting of the French Senate. The chamber is lavishly decorated with neoclassical decoration. Statues are scattered throughout the room and gilding adorns the ceiling and the walls. Other decoration includes leaf and plant patterns along the walls and along the cobbling of the roof. On the floor of the chamber the seats of the Senate are arranged in a semicircular fashion arranged like a theater. They are facing a set of seats at the far end of the chamber in which the Emperor sits at the very top with important officials beneath him. It appears that the business has just finished as several of the Senators are standing up and talking to each other in the foreground of the picture. Several of the Senators are dressed in military uniform while the others are in the formal fashion of the mid 19th century. The print is 16" x 11".

Interesting. fine quality print from the London Illustrated News titled. "The three brothers by Rosa Bonheur in the French Gallery". April 13th 1861. This delightful print shows three donkeys standing next to a stream in what appears to be a area of France or Spain. The donkey`s are laden down with sticks for firewood or building material. To the left of the print walks their master. carrying another bundle of sticks to place on another of the brothers. The background of the scene is taken up with heavy forest and steep ground. The print is 16" x 11".
