Wonderful color print of a painting by Nicholas Poussin titled. "Rape of the Sabines". 1930.

This print shows a scene from the mythology of ancient Rome. After the founding of Rome. Romulas discovered that no woman inhabited the city. Therefore. he invited a neighboring tribe. the Sabines. to a feast. During the feast the Roman leapt upon the virgins of the Sabines and carried them off to populate the city. This print shows the moments of the carrying off the woman. Romulas stands on top of a platform watching the scene below as the Roman men carry on the woman of the Sabines. Many of the woman are struggling and those men who fight the Romans are being struck down with weapons. The figures in the painting are shown in the typical view of the costume of the classical period. The print is 10" x 8".
