Wonderful color print of a painting by Renoir (1874) titled. "La Loge". 1930.

Renoir was one of the first Impressionist painters and worked alongside Monet. Although Monet concentrated on the natural world. Renoir concentrated on the middle-class French. particularly in the theatre. cafe`s and bars of Paris. His paintings are invariably joyful ones and are normally bright. colorful and cheerful. This particular shows a woman sitting in a theatre box watching a show. Dressed in the fashions of the late 19th century she is looking straight at the viewer. A pair of operatic glasses are in her hand and her hair is gathered on top of her head. held together by a white flower. Necklaces of pearls adorn her neck and contrast with her black and white dress. Behind her sits a man with his face partially obscured by a large pair of binoculars. He wears a traditional evening suit and seems intent upon the play. The background is a rich red and gold as is normally found in a theatre at this time. The print is 8" x 10".
