Wonderful print of a painting by Jan Vermeer of Delft titled. "A girl asleep". in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York. 1930.

Jan Vermeer is now considered one of the Dutch masters but during his lifetime in the 17th century was relatively unknown. His method of painting utilized very soft lighting and little color, mainly yellow, blue and green. All in muted colors. Some have suggested that Vermeer used a camera obscurer in order to create his method of painting. The print is 8" x 10".

G B Moroni: An Italian Lady and a Nobleman, said to be Fenaroli

Wonderful pair of prints (one in color and one in black and white) of a painting by G. B. Moroni titled, "An Italian Lady Said To Be A Fenaroli" and "A Nobleman, Said To Be A Fenaroli", In the National Gallery, London, 1930.

The first print in colour shows a young Italian lady. She is sitting in a chair with tall sides and back. She wears a satin dress colored dusky pink with gold underskirt, under bodice and sleeves. A tall collar is lined with white satin. In her left hand she holds a fan and on her right hand is a fine golden ring. Her hair is held up at the back of her head with fine braiding holding it in place. Her face bears a little make-up, especially around the cheeks and lips. She is looking straight at the viewer with clear, intelligent eyes. The second print, in black and white, shows an Italian man, possibly of the same family as the woman. He is shown partially armored for battle. Standing upright in black breches he wears an arming jacket with the upper arms covered in mail armor. A fine sword is buckled to his waist. On a ledge next to him is the plate breast and back plate while on the floor are other parts of the amour. Gauntlets for the hands, a gorge for the neck and throat, shoulder pieces and amour for the legs and arms. The man is shown against a background of marble walling. The print is 8 inches x 10 inches.
