Wonderful. large. fine quality maps showing the Polar Regions. circa. 1898. The map to the left shows the region around the Arctic. The borders with the Arctic Circle shared by Russia. Greenland. Iceland. Canada. Alaska and Northern Europe are all shown. At this point the Arctic was largely unexplored and this is marked. However. the countries who have a border on the Arctic Circle have their major cities marked as well as their rivers and mountain ranges. A scale is included in British miles and the longitude and latitude are included. The second map to the right shows the Antarctic. This shows the borders with the countries of Australia and South Africa. Sections that have been explored in the Antarctic are clearly marked as well as the limit of glacial drift. A scale is included in British miles and the longitude and latitude are clearly marked. This map is 18" x 14".

Interesting and detailed coloured map titled Western and Eastern Hemispheres, circa 1895.

The size of the map is 22 x 16 inches. The corners on the map are bumped with very slight loss and there is a very small tear to the bottom middle edge approx. 1/2 inch. The map shows the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Antarctic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. There are two smaller globes of the world showing the hemisphere containing the greatest amount of water and land. A reference to mountains is given with the names and height, for example Kilimanjaro 19226, also there is a map showing the river systems of the world.

The map shows the North and South Pole. the Pacific Atlantic and Antarctic Ocean. the Torrid Temperate and Frigid Zones. The scale is shown in Geographical and English miles. The map also shows North and South America and New Zealand. The size of the map is 34 1/2cm x 26cm. There is a slight crease to top edge of map. There is slight foxing to map with two 1/2cm tears to right edge.
