Early George III Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase

CODE: 201884

£4,000.00
In stock
A very fine English Mahogany Secretaire Circa. 1770 in near original condition with only normal wear and tear and in excellent condition for its age. It is of a good narrow and tall and deep proportions favoured in the 1770's and fitting well into the chimney recesses of the day. This secretaire is unusually fortunate in having its original feet still in excellent condition and securely attached. (Often these rotted away to be later replaced with inferior ones but not in this case as confirmed by our reputed restorers who repolished the piece revealing the full glory of the flame mahogany drawer fronts and body of the fine piece.) Circa. 1770. A fine original 18th century English bookcase that has four unusually deep graduating drawers, the top of which opens by an early push button device to reveal a bureau style desk section with original mahogany fronted drawers accented with tiny ivory drawer pulls.

Size approx. 48" wide x 25" deep x 86" high (exact sizes available on request). The exterior handles have at some time been removed and later appropriatly been replaced and there has been some minor work such as drawer runners being replaced after normal wear and tear. The fine piece also has the benefit of retaining all but two of the original glass panels with their original stryations as naturally occuring in the glassmaking processes of the 1770's. This is a particularly fine example of its time and with minimal effects from careful use over the years and it comes from a fine stately home in the south wezst of england through an estate sale ( details on application and these will be given to the prospective purchaser as proof of provenance.) We have no hesitation (but some reluctance!!!) in offering this fine well loved and used George the III secretaire. Very Good Condition and as seen at Olympia Earls Court 2005 and Miami West Palm Beach 2007.

The bookcase is currently stored in Miami, Florida where it can be viewed by appointment. Local delivery from $300. Call +44 1271 883204 for details.
